Well, I finally managed to sleep through the night last night. A full eight hours. It has done wonders for my mood. I am beginning to think I made the right choice in coming here. I am surprised it took me this long to be ok with the idea. Every other time I did the expat thing it took a matter of hours. This time it took several days. However, now I am in love and dashing across streets, jumping on trams, and maneuvering my way through the city like I have been here for years.
I have been apartment hunting, which sucks on the best of days. However, I find I don't mind it quite so much here. Touring and getting to know such a beautiful city, while looking for the perfect apartment appeals to the organized and wanderlust parts of my personality at the same time. I am getting to read maps, explore parts of Prague I would never have gone to if I was just a tourist and see some of the most beautiful and diverse architecture in the world. I fail to see a down side in this. I am leaning towards a place in Vinohrady. It is ideal. Slightly off the main part of town, yet completely accessible by tram (my preferred method of transit in the city) and far less touristy than any place in P1 (where all the big historical sites are) yet still maintaining that old world feel I love, Vinohrady seems to have everything I am looking for...oh yes and cheap rent. Not like Zizkov (the red light district) cheap, but East Oakland cheap with out the stabbing and shootings.
I think what made today truly amazing was the swan siting. It was like a great big message from the big poet himself, W.B.Yeats, I had chosen wisely. Heading back across the river, I looked down at the Vlatva and saw a giant whiteness of swans just floating down the river. It was amazing. I don't think I have ever seen so many swans together in one place before in my life. I gasped so loudly the chick in front of my actually turned around. I couldn't help myself. They were all so beautiful. I am still glowing from it.
