My favorite thing about Blogspot, other than being able to regurgitate my every thought I have if I feel like it, is the ability to track who in the world is reading me. Recently there has been a ton of activity from Austria. This makes me as pleased as punch. I love Austria. I mean really love it. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, with its lush, green, sprawling landscape and huge over the top architecture. It really does appeal to both sides of me, the side which enjoys looking at pretty views and the urban girl. The only thing it is missing is an ocean.
Vienna is one of my favorite cities on earth. I love how open it is on one hand and positively oppressive it is on the other. Its wide streets, platz every few blocks and parks seem to balance out the crazy huge grandeur of Hapsburgian buildings. It allows a person to breathe while being breathless at the same time. I know it sounds impossible, but it really can happen. It makes me want to explore the rest of the country and see what this beautiful gem, nestled in Central Europe has to offer.
And then there are the people. The Austrians are a strange mixture of repressed passion and flamboyant efficiency. They seem to have collected the stereotypes of the countries surrounding them and perfected these traits in a way which allows them to be the best possible example of each, especially the Italians and the Germans. Not to mention they are some of the most spectacular looking people (read men) ever. Tall, blond, with great noses and usually blue or green eyes. I mean I have never seen so many guys who are just so quintessentially my type in one place, other than perhaps Stockholm. Everytime I head south I am amazed I come back to the Czech Republic.
So I when I saw the quickly rising number of times I was being read in Austria, I did a little happy dance, especially since I am not sure I know anybody in Austria right now. I just have one request, for my Austrian readers: Please say hello. I am a curious beast and am dying here in Southern Bohemia to know about my Austrian readership.
