The power of words 2.0

Author Terry Prachett once said "Words do not kill! People kill. Wild animals kill. But words.... words have a totally different power. They enter in through our eyes and ears and work their way into our souls". I think in many ways there has never been a better statement on the power words wield. For good or bad, words have an intense magical quality to them. They make us believe, disbelieve, question, answer and so many other things. It is possible to weave spells with them over ourselves, over others, over the masses, over the past, present and future. It is this power which makes them beautiful and dangerous tools. It is a rare person who has the ability to withstand their influence, especially when directed at us, whether words from others, the media, but most importantly from ourselves. I think the true power of words comes from the power the ones which sneak in quietly and whisper "truths" about who we are, what we are, in the back of our minds. These can lead to god complexes, inferiority complexes and a whole slew of other issues, too long to go into in this simple blog. They are a beautiful powerful force which should be respected and used with extreme caution. Too bad they don't come with a warning label: "Use with care...."
