I am pretty sure I was just asked out on my first date in the Czech Republic. There is a problem with this, I am not 100% certain. As some of you know, I suck at dating in English. Dating in a foreign language I speak bits and pieces of, ie German, French or Italian is always an interesting experiment of diplomacy. Dating in a language I don't speak is a terrifying prospect and add to this, yet again, I am not sure it is a date. From what I have gathered from the one friend I have who has been here long enough to actually have had a few Czech boyfriends, it works differently here than it does at home. Great, so I know have to try and figure out a whole new set of rules for a game I already suck at. WONDERFUL!!! Then there comes the possibility this could be an attempt to get some free(ish) English lessons. Also the whole thing about me over thinking things. Jeez.
Don't get me wrong, I fully intend to go and test the dating waters. After all, the guy in question is a friend and we have a playful, fun, flirty relationship and I think he will be the perfect person to stretch my foreign dating wings with.... that is, if it is a date.
Well honestly hun, you have to deal with the fact that even just being FRIENDS with Czech people means that SOMEONE is getting free lessons to some end.
ReplyDeleteHowever, enlighten me. How are things different int he dating realm exactly? I was considering asking that guy out but I need to know I'm not making some big faux pas.
I know even being friends with people means free English lessons. I am just not sure I want that to be the only reason why someone wants to date me.
ReplyDeleteI'll fill you in an email. It is a little complicated.
